  • Five Suzuki models are the last victims of the next Australian design rules (ADR).
  • IGNIS, Swift Sport, Vitara, S-Cross and Jimny will not be available until 2025.
  • The Swift and the Jimny XL are not affected, Suzuki working on a solution for Jimny.

Suzuki brings great changes to its Australian range, thanks to the next safety regulations that most of its current models do not meet. While the new swift and the five -door jimny XL are sheltered from the cuts, almost everything else is on the cutting block. Fortunately, Suzuki has a plan for some of its abandoned models on the Australian market.

The reason for the great upheaval is that the Suzuki Ignis, Swift Sport, Vitara, S-Cross and the Jimny with three doors are not compatible with the updated Australian design rules (ADR), which come into force from the 1st March, 2025 with specific requirements for the AEB system (autonomous emergency braking). IGNIS is the only one not available with AEB as standard, while the rest of the pack has an old version of the system, which makes them all non -compliant.

Talk to local media CarexpertMichael Pachota, managing director of Suzuki Australia, said that these models had already reached the end of their life cycles, so deleting them from the range was “always” part of their product planning. The manager added that, although the company has ceased to accept production orders for the above models, there are enough inventory to keep them available throughout 2025.

Most importantly, the automaker “investigates” a solution for the return of Jimny with three doors to the Australian market after the end of the current inventory. Although Suzuki had no details, the tiny all-terrain could potentially adopt the new AEB system with double camera which is already in the five-door version. It remains to be seen if this will happen as part of a simple update of the year of model or a more complete facelift.

By putting aside the Jimny, Suzuki should bring slightly updated hybrid versions of Vitara and S-Cross SUVs on the Australian market. The automaker will announce more information on the third quarter of the year, but the Vitara Lifted is already available in Europe, giving Australians a good idea of what to expect.

While the IGNIS urban crossover and the Swift Sport hot hatch will probably be interrupted without successors, the local Suzuki range will soon win a new member – the Fronx SUV which is made in India.

In addition to Suzuki, the next ADR regulations have affected many models of other car manufacturers, including the Mitsubishi Asx, Eclipse Cross and Pajero Sport, and the Mazda6 which have been linked to their respective alignments. All were close to the end of their life cycles, which means that it was not worth investing in a potential upgrade for the Australian market.
