  • Mercedes recalls 7,362 EQB EVS in the United States due to a risk of fire.
  • Vehicles have a battery that can fail internally and set fire.
  • The owners should only charge their crossroads at 80%, until you get a software update.

Mercedes recalls thousands of EQB electrical multisgments because their high voltage batteries can “fail internally”. This could cause a fire, whether the vehicle is parked or driven.

A total of 7,362 vehicles are affected, including EQB 250, EQB 300 and EQB 350 2022-2024.

According to the government, “due to the combination of certain conditions of production and use of vehicles, an internal short circuit of a battery cell in the high voltage battery could occur.” They then cited the “variations during … early stage production” as well as “local external factors” – such as electric current undulations in load infrastructure or potential mechanical damage to high battery Voltage – as the reasons why the battery could be “insufficiently insufficient robust” to a high load state.

Mercedes received fires throughout 2023 and 2024 and studied each of them. The emphasis was initially put on Chinese vehicles, but the company could not exclude the possibility of problems on other markets, so they decided to make a reminder. This happens despite no specific root cause is not found.

The company said that there had been no report to the issue in the United States and that they do not hide the problem with battery management software. Consequently, the correction is quite simple because the dealers will simply update the software to solve the problem.

The notifications of the owners should be posted on the day of the April fish and customers are invited to invoice their EQB only 80% until the end of the software update. This is an important drawback given that the EQB 300 has only 205 miles EPA range (330 km).

The batteries were manufactured by Farasis Energy of China and the problem is not linked to the Samsung SDI recall involving 180,196 vehicles manufactured by Ford, Stellantis and the Volkswagen group.
