  • Toyota and Lexus recall more than 40,000 vehicles due to the potentially damaged seat belt.
  • The recall has an impact on a number of popular models, including Camry, RX and NX.
  • The dealers will inspect the central security belt of the second row and will replace it, if necessary.

Safety belts are one of the most important security characteristics and estimates of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that they saved 14,955 lives in 2017 only. Given this, it is alarming when vehicles are recalled because their safety belts could be damaged.

However, Toyota and Lexus remember 40,922 vehicles because their second -row central seat belt can be damaged. According to the government, incorrect tools were used during the “hot cutting process” and this could have damaged the seat belt, which forced them not to work as expected.

Safety belts were manufactured by JOYSON SAFETY SYSTEMS in Mexico and the problem was discovered after a routine inspection of parts found a “fusion brand” on the strap of the seat belt. This led to an investigation, which finally determined that the “strap force of the security belts of the second row center did not meet certain requirements” of the federal safety vehicle safety standards.

The recall has an impact on the Camry 2025 as well as the 2025 Lexus NX250, NX350 and NX350H. The other affected models include 2024-2025 Lexus RX350, RX350H and RX500H.

The notifications of the owners should be sent by post at the end of March or early April, and customers will be invited to bring their vehicle to the dealer. There, the technicians will examine the strap of the seat belt and will replace the entire safety belt if necessary.

While Toyota estimates that less than 0.1% of vehicles have bad safety belts, the recall has an impact on 32,529 Camry sedans. It is a major part of the population and the second most affected model is the Lexus RX350 at 3,242 units.
