  • Tesla managed to sell 152,748 3 models over the same period in China.
  • Xiaomi will soon go after the Tesla Model Y with its electric SUV Yu7.

Entering a highly contested EV market like China is not an easy task, but the Chinese giant of Xiaomi technology has done what many established car manufacturers could not: launch a very first electric vehicle that has exceeded Tesla Model 3 – At least in China. The data on sales of China Passenger because Association (CPCA) between April 2024 and January 2025 confirm that the SU7 of Xiaomi managed to explore model 3, a major feat for the automotive beginnings of the company.

The production of The Sleek SU7 began in April 2024, the deliveries of customers starting shortly after. He experienced a very strong start, with no less than 30,000 examples sold in April, May and June. In April, 7,058 units were sold, which was sufficient to exceed 5,065 models 3 sold during the same month. What is perhaps the most impressive is that the request for the SU7 increased regularly throughout 2024 and has never failed to die, as can often be the case with new electric vehicles.

The Tesla Model 3 put an end to the period from April to June with 38,446 units, easily eclipping the SU7. In the month of July-September, the Tesla maintained its advantage, with 52,052 examples finding new houses across the country. In comparison, 39,790 SU7 were sold during the same three months. Xiaomi sales then increased in October, November and December, easily overshadowing model 3.

While Tesla managed to sell 52,241 models 3 during this period, Xiaomi sold 69,697 SU7. This included 20,726 in October 23,156 in November and 25,815 in December. A high demand for the Xiaomi continued in 2025 and 22,897 were sold in January. Although this is down on the December figures, the Chinese New Year’s vacation period generally leads to a decrease in vehicle sales. In January, Tesla sold only 8 009 models 3.

Overall, according to X user Troy Teslikewhich cited the official figures for China Passenger because association, Xiaomi delivered 162,384 SU7 between April 2024 and January 2025, exceeding 152,748 3S Tesla models sold during the same period.

Can Xiaomi beat the Tesla Model Y?

The Chinese brand also pursues Tesla with its second model. In December, he previewed the new YU7, a direct rival of the Tesla Y model. Like the SU7, it could underestimate the tesla at the price while coming from standard with more functionalities and a more premium design.

Given the popularity of multisgments and SUVs in recent years, it is quite possible that the YU7 can exceed the SU7. Whether or not it can overcome the model is another story. Last year, the Tesla was the newest car in China with 480,309 examples to find new houses. Correspondence or overtaking that will not be easy for Xiaomi.
