- For decades, motorcycles and cars shared the tarmac on the exhausting German circuit.
- Citing security problems, Nurburgring says that the two can no longer coexist.
- Motorcycles will be limited to the tourist sessions of the Nurburgring Grand Prix circuit.
The motorcycles were prohibited from Tourirenfahrten Tourirenfahrten sessions on the Nordschleife of Nurburgring, in what has been called one of the most important political changes in the famous German circuit in its history. The track cites security problems as the main reason for the immediate ban, although financial considerations have probably also played a role.
Until then, the Tourirenfahrten tourist sessions open to the public have been accessible to cars and motorcycles. The four -wheeled and two -wheeled vehicles have shared the circuit for decades, but the sometimes tumultuous relationship between drivers and cyclists has created a tension on the circuit.

In the future, motorcyclists will only be allowed to participate in the Tourirenfahrten sessions on the Nurburgring Grand Prix circuit. Access to the Nordschleife section will now be limited to training sessions organized by professionals.
Security is not the only factor behind the decision, according to Bridge to Gantry. Accidents involving motorcyclists during tourist sessions are much more likely to trigger track closings, especially if paramedics are necessary to tend to injured runners. This can harm the results of the track.

When I visited the Nordschleife last year and I participated in one of these public outings, the whole session was canceled because a motorcyclist crashed in the first 3 minutes of the opening of The track. Not only did it leave hundreds of frustrated drivers unable to hit the track, but it also meant lost income for the circuit. At the time, my instructor said that many car rental companies operating on the circuit became more and more frustrated by biker accidents and canceled sessions.
Managers say that motorcyclists who have already bought a seasonal pass can continue to use it on the Nurburgring Grand Prix circuit, or they can request a refund at the track information center.
Obviously, this is bad news for motorcyclists who dreamed of running to one of the most famous and difficult racetracks in the world, and this could force them to seek alternative circuits in Europe.
