The production of Scout Terra and Traveler models should not start before 2027, but Jay Leno recently had the opportunity to jump behind the new traveler with the CEO of Scout Scott Keogh. During the interview, Keogh revealed some interesting titbits on the duo, including the chemistry of developing batteries.
Earlier this month, Keogh confirmed that the Bev and Erev versions would have different battery chemicals, without providing additional details. In this clip, it reveals that the electric versions will use a battery of Nickel-Mananganese-Cobalt (NMC) while the EREV will use a smaller lithium-fer-phosphate (LFP) battery. The BEV should have around 350 miles (563 km) of reach, while the EREV can travel up to 500 miles (804 km) thanks to the ice extension of the range.

According to Keogh, the intention behind the EREV model is that the small petrol generator and the electric motor work together so perfectly that the conductors will not even notice when the engine is used. This will be helped by the fact that the engine will be located at the rear of the vehicle, reducing NVH.
Off -road chops
The scout boss also talks about the off -road references of the Terra and Traveler models, noting that they will have electronically locking deviations and swinged bars that can be disconnected from the touch of a button. It also reveals that an adjustable air suspension will be an optional supplement on both models.
As none of the two scout models is production vehicles, Leno has only been authorized to the traveler around an airport in Los Angeles. Indeed, the cars brought to the Leno garage have not even a seat belt. Keogh says that around 70% of buyers opt for the traveler. He also confirmed that the previous reports indicating that the majority of people commanded the extension of the range.
