The Kia EV9 was warmly received and has taken care of many distinctions, including the world car of the year 2024. It’s commendable, but the reminders are starting to add up. The last one includes 342 units of the year of the 2025 model, which can have a motor shaft of the poorly united rear drive unit.
As the security recall report explained, EV9 equipped with a double -engine full -engine tensile system could be affected “due to a supplier welding error”. This error means that “the engine shaft inside the rear GDU (drive unit) can be damaged, resulting in a reduction in acceleration and pattern power.”

Vehicles were built in Georgia between October and December from last year. Drivers can be informed of a problem via a strange noise or a warning message “Check AWD / 4WD”.
Kia first learned of the issue in January when they noticed a trend in assistance cases as well as a reported case of loss of power power. This triggered an investigation and a demolition revealed that the engine tree inside the rear drive unit was damaged due to a welding error. An engineer also tested an EV9 and found it “would not accelerate above 12 MPH (19 km / h) under certain conditions”.

Kia is aware of ten reports claiming a loss or reduction in the power of reason. However, there was no accident or injury related to the problem.
The notifications of the owners should be posted later this week and the dealers will replace the rear driving unit. This is easier to say than to do because the exchange apparently takes more than six hours.
