- The Ford Ranger was the Australian bestseller in 2024, but Toyota remains the best-selling brand.
It’s always interesting when a big leader takes a hit with a competitor, especially when it is a heavyweight like Toyota. Ford Australia’s marketing director Ambrose Henderson recently did exactly that, targeting the new Toyota Land Cruiser Prado, while defending the Ford Everest as a real robust SUV champion.

The Ford Everest rivals directly with Truck SUVs like Toyota Fortner, Mitsubishi Pajero Sport and Isuzu Mu-X. He also clashes with the new Toyota Land Cruiser Prado, which is currently available in 7 places, unlike the Land Cruiser North American at 5 places.
Ford against Toyota
In a media conversation with Australian outlets, Henderson was questioned about the Toyota Land Cruiser, and according to CarexpertHis answer was anything but subtle. He recognized Prado’s inheritance but took the opportunity to underline the “without compromise” approach of Ford:
“The model you are talking about is a great competitor, and he has had a very long series of wonderful products in these spaces. But I think that when you compare our back to back products, you can see where we have made strategic decisions not to compromise, and others may have compromised items that are very important for customers in these segments-for example, be able to adapt your luggage in startup, “he said.

Henderson continued by emphasizing Ford’s philosophy to the customer: “The top of us in everything we do is deliver to customers what they want and what they tell us and make no compromise on this subject. We have to run our own race, and we are really confident in the range we have offered and the value proposal that also presents customers. ”
Although Henderson’s criticisms are wider, he used the Land Cruiser start -up space with Prado seven places as a key example. In his opinion, the 182 liters of Prado (6.4 cubic feet) behind the third row is simply not measured. Meanwhile, Everest has 259 liters (9.1 cubic feet) of luggage space in its seven -seater configuration, apparently a better adjustment for equipment and children.
Ford also claims that Everest can contain 259 liters (9.1 cubic feet) of luggage in the seven -seater configuration, while the five -seater version offers 898 liters much larger (31.7 cubic feet).
What about compromises?
Henderson’s mention of “compromise” could have let some wonder exactly what he refers to in the Land Cruiser Prado. Although the comment on the start -up space is quite easy to follow, it is less clear what other Ford sacrifices point. But hey, car manufacturers are known to compare the products of their rivals, so Henderson probably knows exactly where the Prado could miss.

He also had some reflections on Ford Ranger’s pick-up, the appellant “the only product of this segment which offers an electrification solution that does not lose any capacity”. With a large 3.5 -ton towing capacity and solid -road chops, Henderson seemed to have Chinese competitors such as the rechargeable shark byd Shark 6 and GWM Cannon Alpha Phev.
Ford Ranger and Everest are large sellers, but can it catch Toyota?
As for figures, the Everest de Ford had a stellar year in Australia, reaching 26,494 sales in 2024. The Ford Ranger, which shares a platform with Everest, took the crown as the best-selling vehicle in Australia in 2024 with 62,593 deliveries.

Together, the Ranger and the Everest represented 89% of Ford sales in progress last year. The SUV and the van on the frame of the scale brought Ford to second place in the best -selling brands in Australia, behind Toyota.
Although the Hilux and the Land Cruiser Prado were sold by Ford’s Ranger and Everest, Toyota remains the king of the Australian automobile jungle. In 2024, Toyota sold 241,296 vehicles, more than double count of 100,170 Ford sales. Toyota’s domination will probably not be shaken soon, the company occupying first place for the 22nd consecutive year.
