China is quickly established as the global epicenter of affordable electric vehicles, and for a good reason. However, most electric vehicles for the budget come from local marks that have been able to bypass the traditional constraints that have slowed inherited car manufacturers.
But now, even Toyota, an inherited company that has been criticized for its slowness in the adoption of electric vehicles, jumps into the fray with a shocking starting price on the Chinese market, in particular given its size and its features.

The vehicle in question is the BZ3X and was given to life thanks to the joint venture of Toyota with GAC. It was presented for the first time in December, but it has just started. It turned out to be so popular that more than 10,000 orders were placed for this in an hour, which has crashed the system. Looking at what buyers will get their money, it is easy to understand why the BZ3X is so red.
Price details
The prices of the electric SUV start at 109,800 yuan, or about $ 15,000 at current exchange rates. Given the size and features of the compact SUV, it is an incredibly competitive price. For the context, the GAC Toyota Highlander, similar to that sold in North America, begins at 284,800 yuan ($ 39,300), while the Camry begins at 171,800 yuan ($ 23,700).
At this price, you get the basic version of the BZ3X, called 430 air. It comes with a 50.03 kWh LFP battery. Although it is the smallest for a SUV of this size, Toyota says it is good for 267 miles (430 km) of range on the CTLC cycle. However, since the China test cycle tends to be extremely Generous, the real world range will probably be closer to 250 miles (402 km). If you are looking for a little more equipment, there is also a slightly improved 430 air + version available, from 119,800 yuan (~ $ 16,500).
Toyota will also offer the BZ3X in 520 pro (¥ 120,980 / ~ 16,700 $) and 520 pro + (¥ 139,800 / ~ $ 19,300), both use a larger 58.37 kWh battery and have a cited 323 miles (520 km). It also has a more powerful 224 HP engine. It starts at ¥ 159,800 (~ $ 22,000)
Two versions of the 520 pro offering advanced driver assistance systems were also announced, at a price of ¥ 149,800 (~ $ 20,700) and ¥ 159,800 (~ $ 22,000), respectively. These models include 11 cameras, 12 ultrasonic radars, 3 mm wave radars and a Lidar, all fueled by the NVIDIA X driving AGX.
The BZ3X cabin is certainly not super-luxury when it comes to electric vehicles built by Chinese, but it looks decent. It has a 14.6-inch infotainment display, a group of 8.8-inch digital instruments and a Yamaha audio system at 11 speakers, all installed as standard.
The SUV itself measures 4,600 mm (181.1 inches) of length, 1,875 mm (73.8 inches) in width and 1,645 mm (64.7 inches) in height, with a wheelbase of 2765 mm (108.8 inches), which means that it is roughly the same size as a rav4 it is at AT at 1.835 kg (4.045 lbelles), 1.835 kg (4.045 lbs), which is 1.835 typical enough for this type of electric vehicle.
