A Green Party leader asked why the police allowed Yanni Charalambous to drive his “illegal” cybertruck on the British roads

- The British politician criticizes the Youtuber cybertruck, demanding an action on his lack of certification.
- The EV is not legal on the street, which means that British residents are not allowed to drive it on public roads.
- Yanni Charalambous tried to obtain a certificate of conformity for his cybertruck.
The Tesla Cybertruck suddenly became a burning subject in British politics after the others were seen in the streets, although they are not officially available in the United Kingdom or in Europe. Currently, the electric truck is illegal for leading to the United Kingdom because it does not respect local regulations. Do not comply with these standards, and the authorities could grasp it, but that has not prevented from trying to make it work.
More: even with rubber edges, criticisms want Tesla Cybertruck off the road to Europe
Caroline Russell, leader of the Green Party in the London Assembly, recently raised the problem with Mayor Sadiq Khan after spotting the Cybertruck belonging to Yanni Charalambous, an entrepreneur and Youtuber (you may know him of Matt Watson’s Run channel). This occurred on the entry of another Cybertruck earlier this year, which was withdrawn from the street for violating British road safety regulations.
A routine stop turns into a legal issue
According to a report of ForbesRussell asked why the metropolitan police had not seized the Charalambous vehicle after the police officers made a routine stop, which was captured in one of Yanni’s YouTube videos. It argued that the absence of a certificate of compliance by Cybertruck means that the owner cannot legally ensure it.
“It is worrying that the MET officers did not hold a Tesla Cybertruck in the streets of London, apparently ignoring that the vehicle is not legal on the road in the United Kingdom,” said Russell. “It is frankly terrifying as a vehicle as brutal, designed without thought for the safety of pedestrians could have wandered in the streets of our city. This incompetence is not only disappointing, it is potentially catastrophic. »»
The mayor responds
In response to the political outcry, the mayor of London published a statement stating that the metropolitan police had examined the YouTube images:
“The Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) examined the YouTube video, which seems to show an officer stopping the vehicle, under article 163 of the Road Traffic Act 1988, to check the driver’s documentation before allowing the driver to continue his trip. The MPS Road Police Unit will follow up on the driver’s details, inspect the vehicle and seize the vehicle of a public place if necessary. »»
This means that Yanni Cybertruck could still be seized, although the police first checks if the “vehicle has been changed to meet the legislation of England and Wales” before acting.
What is the problem with Yanni’s Cybertruck?
Yanni has been trying to do his cybertruck Street-Legal in the United Kingdom for several months now. In a series of YouTube videos, he documented the changes to the vehicle, including rubber moldings to cover the sharp edges of the truck, yellow indicators and rear fog lights. But these changes have still not earned him a certificate of conformity through the vehicle’s individual approval process (IVA) of the United Kingdom.
To get things done, the EV has recently been sent to Germany for a TUV inspection, which could help certification.
In the meantime, the Yanni cybertruck operates on plates and Albanian recordings, just as it was when it bought it. In one of his last videos, he says that a legal escape allows him to drive the vehicle on the British roads, as long as he crosses the border every six months.
Plus: Oh my boy, Mansory set the cybertruck and named the elongation
According to the United Kingdom’s transport department, “a British resident cannot drive a vehicle with registration plates foreign to the United Kingdom”. Regarding imported cars such as Cybertruck, they should not be driven on foreign plates by a British resident, except and from an annual security check or a pre-reserved appointment of the IVA “.
In other words, although the Albanian seller can legally lead cybertruck to the United Kingdom up to six months with foreign plates, the same does not apply to Yanni because he is a British resident.
The other cybertrucks seized in the United Kingdom

Yanni is not the only one to have a cybertruck problem. Earlier this year, Grand Manchester police seized another Tesla Cybertruck in Whitefield, in the United Kingdom, after being deemed illegal on the road. This particular model would be detained by the same Albanian individual who sold his truck to Yanni.
According to the police press release, the EV driver of the people provided was a permanent resident of the United Kingdom, but the truck was recorded and ensured abroad. Consequently, it was “seized under the S165 of the Road Traffic Act” and detained until the owner provides the “documentation necessary for the release of the vehicle”. As Forbes Reported, the Cybertruck was then transported to a recovery truck to private land, being careful to avoid “touching public roads”.
It remains to be seen the question of whether Yanni and his Albanian connection will succeed in obtaining their legally recorded cybertrucks and on the road in the United Kingdom.
