–>
- Genesis is developing his own LMDH racing car to participate in endurance events.
- Now he indicates that he uses a 1.6 -liter Hyundai four -liter four -cylinder to create a new V8.
- The new racing car will be unveiled in April, with tests that start in August.
In 2026, Genesis plans to enter the world endurance championship with a brand new car. Although it has been known for some time that it will have a V8, today we get more details. The automaker has confirmed that he would use the 1.6-liter platform that Hyundai uses for WRC, but also discussed the challenge of building a racing car from zero for a brand without race.
Cyril Abiteboul, director of the Genesis Magma Racing team, previously explained that Genesis had opted for the V8 engine due to a tight development calendar. To save time, the team decided to take advantage of a proven platform. In a recent interview, he developed the reasoning behind this choice.

“We have chosen to go with a V8, precisely because the V8 was an excellent opportunity not to have to rethink a complete engine from zero and to be inspired by our WRC (World Rally World Championship) of our (Hyundai Motor Group), a very competitive four years of 1.6 liter to four that we have been using for several years. We took this engine and did it twice four online, which gives us a V8, “said Abitboul.
The Hyundai WRC program was a resounding success, with two manufacturers’ championships, a driver’s title and 29 rally victories in name. Genesis clearly hopes that part of this winning DNA will result in a glory of endurance racing.

Getting there will mean more than building a very powerful and effective V8. This is one of the reasons why he has teamed up with Oreca, a developer of French chassis well known for his famous Dodge Vipers in the early 2000s. He currently built a chassis for Alpine and Acura.
We will all have the chance to see the car in full glory later this year in April before starting the tests in August. Genesis plans to join the Sportscar IMSA championship in 2027 and, hopefully, compete in Le Mans the same year. Why jump in some of the most difficult races on earth?
Abitboul specifically called that Genesis wants to build a race inheritance in some of the most prestigious places. The team has already obtained its drivers and chief engineer. Now, all you have to do is start the tests, which is full -time work.
