Mercedes-AMG Super SUV: what we know of 1,000 HP EV

  • The Mercedes-AMG electric SUV is inspired by the concept of the Vision AMG concept.
  • Built on the AMG-EA platform, it will offer up to 1,000 hp from three axial flow motors.
  • Should make his debut in 2026, he will compete directly with the next Porsche K1.

Last month, Mercedes-AMG previewed the all-electric Super SUV on which he is currently working. This new model is under development alongside the first internal electric sedan of AMG, and much like this car, is linked to the controversy in court. After all, many enthusiasts are used to AMG models with beaten V8 engines, and that is partly why the C 63 -cylinder C 63 hybrid was a flop. However, the German brand believes that electricity is the future, and it prepares something rather special.

The prototypes identified by our spy photographers, as well as the official images published by Mercedes, were strongly covered with coating and body camouflage, obscuring most design details. However, there is a chance that the EV, which should receive the nickname of the SUV GT, will have many similarities with its sedan counterpart which is inspired by the concept of Mercedes Vision AMG 2022.

In this spirit, the artist Nikita Chuyko has created illustrations for Kolesa based on the test mules and the recent renderings of Taycan Fighter of AMG, offering an overview of what the new SUV might look like. If it ends up looking like these images, it will certainly stand out in the Mercedes range, although we are not entirely convinced that it will be for all the right reasons.

The front of the SUV presented here is dominated by a false grille, which is to be expected in an electric vehicle, while the headlights are connected by a light bar. They also wear three -point DRL stars from a multitude of new Mercedes models.

For as interesting as the front of this rendering, the rear is even more. Inspired by the AMG concept vision style, it has an enveloping LED rear light design, which reminds of the Kia Ev6 – an interesting choice, although the one that works better on the Mercedes.

Power, performance and ambition

Getting away from the design, the GT SUV should reflect the size of the Vision AMG 2022 concept, extending over about 5.1 meters (200 inches) in length, with a wheelbase pushing more than 3 meters (118 inches). It is a more important imprint than the AMG Gle 63, Gas-Gozzling, putting it in the same league as the EQS SUV headlight entirely electric.

Under the skin, the new AMG electric SUV will be built on the AMG.EA platform owner of the brand, with an 800-volt electrical system for faster load and greater efficiency. It will also sport the newly developed axial electric motors from the British company YASA, potentially offering more than 1,000 hp. This type of power will make it a serious competitor against other electrical multisgments such as the Lotus Elter R, which extinguishes 905 hp.

An release date has not yet been announced, but it is likely that the production version will be debut in 2026, with sales starting later this year or at the start of 2027, according to the market, just in front of its rival Porsche K1. In theory, it is a serious competitor for any luxury electric crossing, but its commercial success largely depends not only on its technological or electricity figures, but also its design.
