3/10 update: Our spy photographers have spotted another Mazda CX-5 prototype from Mazda 2026, this time, the European version is tested in Germany. At first glance, it seems identical to the North American model, with the exception of a small difference: the front turn signal markers. The American version seems to have amber -colored signals in the corners of the headlights, while the European model uses a different design. However, as it is always a prototype, there is always a chance that the final production version can see other adjustments.

Mazda is preparing to unveil the new generation CX-5, almost nine years after the start of the current second generation model in 2016. Our spy photographers spotted the prototypes of the SUV updated on public roads in Los Angeles and Germany. The automaker has confirmed that its best -selling model will include a hybrid motorcycle group developed internally, as well as a range of other improvements.

Although still wrapped in camouflage, the prototypes actually seem almost ready for production, suggesting that official start is fast approaching. The Mazda CX-5 2026 retains the familiar silhouette and greenhouse of its predecessor, but introduces a variety of fresh design elements that distinguish it.
Fresh style with familiar roots
At the front, the headlights are thinner and bend in the grille, evoking subtle Mercedes EQC vibrations. True to Mazda’s signature style, the sculpted bumper has a clean and minimalist design with a single cooling supply, avoiding unnecessary jack. Along the profile, the square wheel arches resemble those of the CX -50 but are associated with a more discreet – potential plastic coating on certain versions.
The rear design, however, is the place where things become more interesting. The third generation CX-5 has a pair of new aggressive rear lights, shaped in a way that recalls the concepts of recent BMW, as well as Croustis LED graphics inspired by the CX-60, 70, 80 and 90 of Mazda series. A large tailgate dominates the back, supplemented by an additional dose of plastic coating on the rear bumper and visible double spares.

Naturally, the prototype identified in Europe did not have the amber indicators of that identified in the United States. Apart from that, the two development vehicles seem to be identical.
Interior and motorcycle group: Large upgrades on the horizon
Although our photographers cannot take a look at the interior, it is sure to expect Mazda will deliver a modern cabin design, high quality materials and the latest technology borrowed from the largest SUVs of the brand. Mazda has the talent to make interiors that strike above their weight, and the new CX-5 is unlikely to be an exception.

The real story, however, is under the hood. The next CX-5 will introduce a self-proclaimed hybrid powertrain developed internally. Unlike the original Toyota hybrid found in the CX-50, this new electrified system is built around a more efficient combustion engine.
And there are more: Mazda will also equip the CX-5 with its new generation Skyactiv-Z motorcycle groups, which should make its debut by 2027. Although the details are rare, the Skyactiv-Z promises a leap forward in efficiency and performance.

The second generation CX-5 made its debut at the end of 2016, with an update in the middle of the cycle arriving in 2021. It was a coherent bestseller for Mazda, holding the blow against national rivals like the Toyota Rav4, Honda Cr-V and Subaru Forester.
The new Mazda CX -5 should make its debut in the coming months, with its launch of the American market probably as a model 2026 – unless Mazda decides to push it to 2027my.
