BMW will not reflect the costs of consumers, at least initially

- BMW told American dealers that he would gain the weight of American prices on Mexican manufacturing vehicles.
- The plan “Prix Protect” will last until May 1, but what will then happen is the assumption of anyone.
- A number of models are made in Mexico, including the Coupé, M2 and 3-Série M2 and 3 sedan.
President Trump’s trade war causes a lot of fear and uncertainty because prices could devastate the automotive industry. This is particularly true for companies that count on importing vehicles from Canada and Mexico.
However, there are a little good news because the Wall Street Journal reports that BMW told American dealers that it would absorb the prices on Mexican manufacturing vehicles. The company would do it for at least the “next weeks”, which could save thousands of dollars to buyers.

BMW began production in their San Luis Potosí factory in April 2019 and it employs around 3,700 people. They build the cut sedan, M2 and 3 in series 2.
Although the coupes are not high volume vehicles, the 3 series is important for the car manufacturer. In fact, around 10% of the company’s American sales come from vehicles made in Mexico.

The so-called “Price Protect” regime applies until May 1, but an extension seems doubtful. As a spokesperson noted: “If the pricing situation remains as it is currently, we may have to reassess after this period.”
This means that if you have been on the fence to buy a Mexican manufacturing BMW, you may want to act quickly. The reasons are fairly clear when you consider that the 230i coupe starts at $ 39,600 and that a 25% price would be $ 9,900 at this price. The 3 series could take an even more difficult blow because it starts at $ 45,950 and customers could consider a price of $ 11,487.50.
