AMG was founded in 1967 as an independent engineering company and made a name for an improved Mercedes-Benz model supplier. In 1981, the boss of the company, Hans Werner Aufrecht, sought to launch the company in the United States, and after a chance meeting with Richard Buxbaum of Classic Motors in Illinois, AMG in North America came to life.
A personal touch
This superb Mercedes-Benz 500 salt 5.0 AMG 1984, affectionately nicknamed ‘Blueberry’, was originally the personal car of Buxbaum, and it was ordered specifically for him as a surprise. According to RM Sotheby’s, it was an Aufrecht gift and started life as 500 standard salt salt before undergoing a complete transformation.

As part of the upgrade process, the car was revised with a new sports suspension from Bilstein and it is now on 16 -inch staggered wheels. It was tightened in metallic blue lapis and has aerodynamic front and rear aprons, giving the classic benz a much wicked look. The 5.0-liter natural suction V8 has also been improved and includes a sports exhaust system with tubular headers and twin silencer.
A legendary property
Buxbaum treated the car as its daily driver for a little over a year before it was sold to the billionaire of Vermont Richard B. Cohen. He used it as his daily life for the next five years before putting him back to Buxbaum, who then sold it to the Mercedes specialist responsible for maintaining him during the property of Cohen.
Year after year, from 1993 to 2022, Buxbaum made persistent efforts to buy the car. His determination finally borne fruit in October 2022, while he was able to reacting it and embarking on a complete restoration. The auction house expects it to sell between $ 150,000 and $ 200,000.
