  • The first generation MG4 was a success, but its replacement is a considerably updated car.
  • The new EV is larger in all dimensions than its predecessor and has a longer wheelbase.
  • Unfortunately, there are not yet any interior images available.

The MG4 was one of the first modern Chinese electric vehicles to achieve international success. Not resting on his laurels, MG worked hard to develop a new model, and these photos provide us with our first overview. The brand could have been excused for having simply updated the lights and bumpers of the hatch before calling it a day, but it actually redesigned the whole car.

Local data reveal that the new 4 is slightly larger than the model it replaces. It measures 4,395 mm (173 inches) long, 1,842 mm (72.5 inches) wide and 1551 mm (61 inches) high and has a 2,750 mm (108.2 inch) wheelbase. This makes it 108 mm (4.2 inches) more, 6 mm (0.2 inches) wider and 35 mm (1.3 inches) higher than the first generation, while the wheelbase increased by 45 mm (1.7 inches).

The front of the new MG4 has nothing to do with the model it replaces. While the current car promotes net lines and aggressive edges, the new is dominated by the folds, the curves and has much fewer straight lines than the old one. There are new headlights, a different grille, new districts and a different hood.

MG designers have also designed new door skins for the electric tailgate and, in these photos, it is presented with new 16 and 17 inch wheels. The rear has also been transformed and the key points include a light bar, unique rear lights and a different bumper. The rear lights of the MG4 seem to have been inspired by the cyber -ter and have arrow -shaped lighting signatures.

The supply of the new MG4 is a single electric motor with 161 hp (120 kW), enough to propel it at a top speed of 99 MPH (160 km / h). In comparison, the old EV was delivered with a 168 hp (125 kW) engine in a basic form, but weighed 3,617 lbs (1,641 kg), while the new leaning on a scale at only 3,237 pounds (1,485 kg). It seems likely that a double -engine XPower version will also be introduced shortly.

Although the current MG4 has become a common show on roads in many countries, it has fallen out of China. Shortly after its launch in mid-2022, MG initially delivered more than 5,000 units per month, but sales have crashed since the beginning of 2023. In February, only 13 examples were sold on its real estate market.
