It seems that the new generation of Santa Cruz could be a disguised Chevy Colorado

General Motors and Hyundai announced that they explored a joint development partnership of products, manufacturing and clean energy technologies last fall. The companies were shy on details, but reports emerged in January that Hyundai could provide GM electric vans.
Fast advance until today and the parts are starting to set up as Reuters reports that Hyundai could give GM two electric commercial vans. In return, GM could give Hyundai a pick-up that would be based on the Chevrolet Colorado and the GMC Canyon.

This is interesting to note and it makes us ask us if the truck could replace the Santa Cruz. The company sold only 32,033 units in the United States last year and the model begins at $ 30,200, only $ 3,295 less than Colorado.
Hyundai would also be eager to offer a version of the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra. However, GM “did not put this option on the table” and that implies that it could be a big demand.
One of the vans would be based on the Hyundai ST1 and would be imported from South Korea. However, the car manufacturer would consider North American production by 2028. This could occur in an existing factory, a contract manufacturer or in a whole new installation. The latter would increase slowly, but could have an annual production capacity of more than 100,000 units by 2032.
The report continues by saying that GM should soon eliminate the trucks of Chevrolet Express and GMC Savana aging, so that electric vehicles from Hyundai could serve as a replacement. However, the threat of prices is significant.
Aside from vehicles for the United States, companies would have discussed the possibility that Hyundai provides GM compact crosses for Brazil. Unsurprisingly, it should be based on the Creta, which is built in the country.
Hyundai should also consider offers that extend far beyond vehicles and include the joint purchase and the development of everything, from computer flea batteries.
