If there is one thing about something that Cybertruck owners can count these days, they are falling finish parts and obscene hand gestures from other drivers. Although there are few Tesla to do about the second, they work to contact the first. After several reports of finishing documents that have become Rogue, Tesla launched an investigation into the issue of outdoor panels standing out by driving and decided it was time for a recall.

And it is a large one, covering each cybertruck sold in the last 15 months, from November 13, 2023 to February 27, 2025, having an impact on a total of 46,096 units. This time, this problem cannot be resolved with a software update, because the owners will have to bring their trucks to a dealership for practical attention.

The problem: a defective canoe rail

The problem in question implies the cane rail, a stainless steel garnish panel which extends from the base of the windshield to the rear door, passing along the roof arc above the windows. Tesla explains that the net rail rests entirely on the structural adhesive to stay in place. Unfortunately, this adhesive is vulnerable to the environmental bitch, which means that it does not hold as well as it should.

To solve this problem, Tesla replaces problematic glue with a more sustainable version which is not subject to environmental wear. To ensure that it remains in place, they also reinforce the assembly with a stud welded to the stainless steel panel, which will be tight to the structure of the vehicle using a nut.

The recall process

While the owners of Cybertruck have expressed complaints on forums for some time, Tesla said that they first read the problem in January 2025, when a routine examination of the repairs on the ground discovered a complaint concerning the partial dilapidation of the component. Shortly after, 151 other owners made warranty requests. After investigating, Tesla decided that a recall was necessary, believing that around 1% of the 46,096 trucks affected have the defect.

Since March 18, 2025, production vehicles have not yet been corrected, but Tesla plans to start applying the remedy around March 21, 2025. All the trucks produced before the implementation of the fix, but always seated in the possession of Tesla, will be renovated before being delivered to customers.

A long history of reminders

This recall adds to the growing list of problems for Cybertruck, which has now been recalled eight times since the start of deliveries in 2023. However, many of these reminders did not require a person in person with the dealership, because they were resolved through software updates. Notable past problems include a bulk bed garnish that could come off during driving and loss of driving power.
