Unfortunately, you should not get your hopes because it is not a new development. Quite the opposite, because Rivian initially filed an R2T brand request in October 2018. However, it was abandoned on June 20, 2022.

Shortly before that, Rivian filed another R2T brand request. This seems to be much more detailed because it applies to “land vehicles” as well as a dizzying range of parts and components. These range from solar visors and mud shutters to motor vehicles, electric motors and insignia for vehicles.
The last application is active, but that does not mean that fans should be too excited about it. Car manufacturers are regularly possible names for their vehicles, especially those similar to the names already used. In particular, BMW had a brand for the nickname X8, but it was canceled at the beginning of last year.
This does not mean that there could not be an R2T in the future, but Rivian has his full plate at the moment. In addition to the R2S, the company has already announced plans for an R3 and R3X. The models should be built in a new manufacturing plant near the social circle, Georgia and production could start in 2028.
