For years, if you have spotted a fleet of black and heavy SUVs carrying the most prominent figures in America, it is likely that they were Chevrolet Suburban in (super) heavy garnish. But the change is on the horizon, and it comes with a new badge at the front. The American secret services are now considering a different vehicle for its next generation of armored transport, which exchanges the Bowtie Chevy familiar for the Cadillac crest.
According to reports, the secret services are in current conferences with GM to develop a new fleet of armored vehicles based on the Chevy suburbs, but with badges and Cadillac Escalade looks. And that’s not all, because GM is working on the next iteration of presidential limousine. However, like most things involving tailor -made and highly armored vehicles, this project will take some time before seeing the results.

Next generation of “the beast” in progress
Beyond the SUVs that will fulfill the role of support vehicles, General Motors also has a much more important and more complex project in the pipeline: a successor to presidential limousine, famous under the name of “The Beast”. According to ReutersGM obtained a contract of $ 14.8 million in September 2024 from the Ministry of Internal Security and Secret Services to develop the new model, a detail that has not been reported before. Total costs could reach $ 40.8 million at the time of delivery of vehicles until 2029.
Details are still under the Wraps, although a secret services spokesperson has declared to Reuters: “Our engineering, protection and technical security teams work for years to develop the cutting edge frame that is used to produce these very advanced vehicles”, adding that “we are too far to talk about specific costs or dates”.
The current version of presidential limousine made its debut in 2018, made like a tailor -made Cadillac sedan at the top of a chassis derived from the heavy truck GMC Topkick. Weighing around 20,000 pounds (around 9,100 kg), it is designed to withstand a range of threats that most of us hope to never meet. As a comparison, previous generations of “the beast” were deployed in 2001 and 2009, each increasing protection and technology.
