  • The new Hyundai R&D center in Shanghai is the launch of its development

Hyundai is preparing to unveil a new entirely electric SUV, specially designed for the Chinese market. This upcoming model, which remains without name for the moment, is the result of the joint venture of Hyundai in Beijing, and it recently made its first appearance in an official teaser before its launch later this year.

The teaser reveals a camouflaged prototype of the SUV undergoing tests in cold weather. Despite the concealment, we can see distinct style elements that distinguish this world’s Hyundai Ioniq 9 SUV, which is notably absent in China.

Plus: the EV brands belonging to Chinese people take momentum in Europe, collectively exceeds Tesla

Even under camouflage wraps, the design of the SUV has clear visual clues. The headlights are connected by a thin led band along the front. The back has a muscle shoulder line that takes place in a straight tail, with an integrated spoiler. Not to neglect the full -width LED rear lights, which extend towards the sides, improving the profile of the SUV.

Hyundai recently opened a R&D center in Shanghai, dedicated to the development of electric models specifically for the Chinese market.

Beijing Hyundai

Although we are still waiting for detailed specifications, it is likely that the new SUV will be built on the E-GMP of Hyundai (Electric Global Modular Platform), which is shared on their Ioniq and Kia EV lines. This platform supports the configurations of simple and double engines and can manage battery packs as important as 110.3 kWh, which suggests that this SUV could offer an impressive range and performance.

More: an idea of what Hyundai teases here?

Currently, Beijing Hyundai’s offers are limited to internal combustion engine models (ICE), including popular vehicles such as Sonata and Elantra sedans, Tucson L and Santa Fe and SUV MUFASA. The only electrical model available in China at the moment is the IONIQ 5 N focused on performance, imported directly from the world range of Hyundai.

We will obtain more details on this new entirely electric SUV on March 28. Whether it is the official start or just another teaser is unclear, but for the moment, the Teaser video below will have to do.
