- The electric hatch could use the same powertrain as the Abarth 600E.
- The new GTI version of the E-208 could more than 230 hp hit more than 230 hp.
- Peugeot has not had a GTI model in its range since 308 in 2021.
Peugeot has confirmed that it will launch a GTI version of the fully electric E-208 hatch. Although details limited to this subject are known at this stage, this could very well constitute an attractive proposal to buyers who would like to buy an EV, but also want something that was committed.
The new E-208 GTI will be the first brand-based electric vehicle and should be launched “as soon as possible”. While he was recently addressed to the media, Peugeot’s boss, Alain Favey, said that the GTI brand’s revival would help him “reconnect” with his past and his history while establishing a link between Peugeot’s road cars and his involvement in the World Endurance Championship.

“I am able to confirm that reintroducing the GTI on the E-208 as soon as possible,” Favey told Autocar. “We have made the decision that Peugeot GTI will be reintroduced. We want to continue to maintain the brand’s reputation for driving sensations and the fact that our cars produce special driving sensations, is as a driver, is as a person who is driven in the car. “

The GTI version of the E-208 will use the same platform as the standard model, but could borrow components of the Motopropheur group from Abarth 600E. This car is powered by an electric motor mounted before with 237 hp and is equipped with a torsen limited slip differential. Since the E-208 is a little smaller than the 600th, the hot hatch of Peugeot should be quite Nippy, perhaps capable of hit 60 mph (96 km / h) in less than 6 seconds.
Favey added that outside the E-208, Peugeot will plan to launch a new GTI with combustion engine if that’s what customers want.
“We are going to start with the 208 and (are) listening to your inputs permanently, or what our customers will also say,” he said. “We do not exclude that there could be other executions of the 208 GTI under the badge GTI, but for today, there is absolutely nothing planned in this direction.”
