An anti-TESLA demonstration outside one of the car manufacturer’s stores in Berkeley, California, has turned into a stormy confrontation between demonstrators and a local Trump supporter during the weekend. The confrontation has led to the arrest of a man, and with demonstrations against Tesla gaining momentum in the United States and beyond, incidents like this become more and more likely.

Images captured by a local journalist show Rick Fuze, 33, a resident of Berkeley and owner of a bicycle repair workshop, arriving at the demonstration of his electric bike. Fuze sounded music and broadcast pro-Trump messages as he headed for the group. It was not Fuze’s first attempt to disturb the demonstrations in the same Tesla store, because he is known to film his interventions for his YouTube channel.
This time, however, the demonstrators did not. The video shows Fuze that rolls in the street before several individuals go in front of him, blocking his way. In response, Fuze releases a taser and brandish it on the faces of two demonstrators. One of them, Susan Kegeles, reacts immediately, pulling the rocket by the hair to try to defend themselves. The police on the spot quickly intervened, arresting Fuze and escorting him away from the conflict.
The video, shared by Berkeleyside, also shows one of the police who speak with a protester immediately after the others. We can hear saying: “He (Fuze) has packed someone”, before adding: “He had a taser, and he tastes people.”
Fuze defends himself
Fuze, however, denied complaints. He would have told the police that he “had no one tas” and had “withdrawn only to protect me”. Speaking at the scene, the Berkeley police lieutenant Steve Rego said that Fuze could be accused of brandishing a weapon or an assault, but only if the taser was actually touching someone. It does not seem that someone was struck by the taser. Writing on Youtube after the arrest, Fuze said that he had received a quote but was not charged.

It does not seem that any action was taken against Kegeles, despite his aggressive response to Fuze, which led to physical altercation. Police intervened to break the fight, but no accusation against her was reported.
