Lucid’s Floor Mats Are Doing Their Best Toyota Impression, Trapping The Pedal

Lucid’s floor mats make their best Toyota impression, trapping the pedal

Last month, an American customer said that the accelerator in the air had been taken by the floor mat

  • Lucid asks the owners to remove the carpets and reimburse them.
  • The carpets are only held in place by small feathers on the underside.
  • Other Lucid floor carpets have anchors, fixing them on the carpet.

If you have a lucid air equipped with optional all-weather floor mats, you may want to prepare for unexpected news. The automaker issues a reminder notice, because there is a chance that these floor mats can leave the position and interfere with the accelerator pedal, which increases the risk of accident.

Does that seem familiar? This strangely recalls the infamous Toyota soil mat debacle over a decade ago, where poorly guaranteed carpets were accused for a series of involuntary acceleration incidents.

According to Lucid, its floor mats of all model times are only fixed in place by small feathers on the underside, rather than by appropriate anchors. This means that they are likely to slide forward, which can lead to involuntary acceleration. This does not only put occupants inside a lucid in danger, but could also endanger other road users.

How did it all happen?

Lucid became aware of a potential problem in August from last year when a sales associate led an air with the floor mats in Europe suspected that the carpet had slipped forward and had the accelerator glued. The company then became aware of 13 other cases of floor mats, but there was no interferring report with the accelerator.

However, on February 27, 2025, an American customer reported a problem: during acceleration, the accelerator pedal did not return to its normal position after being released. Lucid determined that the potential for the floor mat moves and interferes with the pedal posed an unreasonable security risk.

Consequently, the company has stopped selling all -weather problematic floor carpets and now only offers carpets that include holes to fix the carpet anchors, as you will find in most vehicles.

The owners of Air Lucid models with the affected carpets are invited to withdraw them and will receive a full refund for their purchase. If you do not know if your mats are the most defective or the most recent and at anchoring, simply take your vehicle in a lucid installation for a free inspection.
