- Texas monitors requests for modification of sexual relations on driving licenses and identifiers.
- We still do not know why the data is collected or if it is shared.
- Some Texans face requests for change of sex marker, even with valid proof.
A bombshell report revealed that the state of Texas has collected information on the transgender residents who tried to change their sex on identification documents, including driving licenses. This comes just after the representative of the republican state Tom Oliverson presented a bill which could make illegal for individuals to identify in an inaccurate manner their gender attributed to birth, the sanctions potentially including up to two years in prison.
Earlier this month, The Texas editorial room Internal documents have obtained that the Ministry of Public Security (DPS) followed each body when a driver requests to modify sex on their license. According to KitThese files show that after Texas announced last year, this would no longer allow residents to change sex on their driving license, except to correct office errors, agency employees recorded each request for a change.

The information collected is then sent to an internal e-mail address, with the “Sex Change Order” object line. For many years, transgender Texans have been authorized to update their state identifiers when obtaining a court order. But last year, LGBTQ activists took control of the email address and began to flood it with subscriptions to gay blogs. Despite this protest of many public members, the ministry continued to collect data from those who make requests for modification of their listed gender, says Kut.
Internal confusion and refusal
Local media reports suggest that in some cases, DPS employees have approved requests for modification of the name on a license but refused to update the sex marker. In other cases, employees have denied name and sex changes, even when individuals have presented federal documents or identity documents from other states that correspond to their gender identity. Some state employees have even documented requests from residents who simply asked questions about the process of modifying their identifier.

In a case, a driver tried to change sex on his identifier in a local driving license office, only to tell him that he should provide more documentation. He sent a copy of his passport to the Ministry of Public Security in an email. This email was then sent to the internal address used to follow the requests for sexual changes.
Legislative reaction
Earlier this month, the representative of the Republican State of Texas, Tom Oliverson, has tabled a bill which would impose severe sanctions on anyone who “knowingly makes a false or deceptive verbal or written declaration” by identifying in an inaccurate manner their gender attributed to the birth of an employer or a government entity. The proposed bill could lead to a prison crime accusation, liable to a sentence of up to two years in prison and a fine of $ 10,000, reports NBC News. However, without co-sponsors, this bill is unlikely to pass anytime soon.
