- A BMW 850CSI 1995 has just sold on a trailer for $ 61,000 surprisingly low.
- The 6 -speed manual coupe had a newly built V12 installed less than six months ago.
- Even by allowing an accident of the 1990s on his file, this CSI looked like a great purchase.
The original 850i of BMW had a lot on paper, including a design which referred to the old M1 supercar and V12 Power that the M1 was too early to take advantage of it. But it was only when the 850CSI more powerful and more focused on the driver changed in the middle of 1994 that the 8 series held his promise. This is why most CSI cost large dollars, this good deal being a rare exception.
A car from 1995 with 81,000 miles (130,000 km) on its digital counter, the black coupe on black sold for $ 61,000 incredibly reasonable on Bring a Trailer, the online auction platform where people can often end up paying the best money, and sometimes too much money for cars.

According to HAGERTY evaluation data, an example of condition No. 2 (excellent) of the 850CSI is worth $ 162,000 and a # 3 (good), $ 108,000, with cars n ° 4 (just) which report $ 54,100. Of course, a narrow inspection reveals some very minor aesthetic defects on it, but the overall state of the interior of paint and leather, the more the fact that it received a 5.6-liter V12 freshly built less than six months ago to a six-digit assessment.
So why was it so cheap? If you were nitpicking, you might complain that the V12 block used in reconstruction is not the original (although the original is included in the sale). And more problematic for certain collectors, history contains evidence of an accident in 1995 even before the car was delivered to its first owner.
To give the CSI that the bites of bites groaned the regular 850i, BMW engineers opened the capacity of the V12, increased the compression ratio and adjusted new cams, new exhausts and a new ECU, among others. The only transmission option was a six -speed manual.
The original 850i made 296 hp (300 PS) from a 5.0 V12, but the CSI pushed 372 hp (377ps) in the United States, dropping zero to 60 mph (97 km for) Car and driver.
You have even obtained the word “motorsport sport” in relief in the door handles to tell you which BMW department was responsible for the improved engine and the modified chassis, and to remind you that it was not an ordinary 8 series: only about 225 cars were sold in America for two years.
