  • Chinese EV sports coupé with 429 HP launched April 15 with a starting price of $ 41,300.
  • JMEV01 TIPS evolves at 3,009 lb, much lighter than the flagship variant of MG Cyberster.
  • The distinctive retro design echoes Tesla Roadster style signals and Lancia Stratos.

With a constant flow of electric vehicles flowing from China, trying to follow them all start to feel like a full -time job. There is always something new in the running for attention, but from time to time, we stand out from the crowd. One of the most intriguing entries, a light electric sports car which appeared for the first time in 2022 under the name of SC -01, resurfaces – this moment ready for production.

Recently renamed the JMEV01, the coupe should finally arrive on the Chinese market on April 15, after spending a little time under the radar. Visually, he lands somewhere between the legendary Gen II Tesla Roadster and a Lancia Stratos, which is not a bad thing.

Read: The SSC SC-01 is a Chinese Electric Sports car of $ 42,000 with 429 hp

The SC-01 was originally an original idea of a startup called Small Sports Car (SSC), but it has since found a new identity under the JMEV brand. JMEV himself is part of Jiangling Motors Corporation (JMC), a Chinese car manufacturer who was once associated with Renault – at least until the French stand out from the joint venture in 2023. Now, the project obtains financial support from Xiaomi, as Carnewschina Reports. Welcome to the overlapping Venn scheme which is the Chinese electric vehicle industry.

JMEV01 prices should start less than 300,000 yuan, or about $ 41,300, and the official launch is scheduled for mid-April.

At a time when most electric vehicles seem to double as a training equipment for suspended engineers, the JMEV01 represents a welcome change. It is supported by a tubular chassis of space chassis and would have turned the scale to only 3,009 pounds (1,365 kg). To put this in perspective, the MG cyberster of similar size weigh 4,376 pounds (1,985 kg) in its flagship form, so JMC has clearly done intelligent things to maintain the weight.

Range and performance

We do not yet have details on the battery capacity, but we know that it comes from Calb and should deliver up to 323 miles (520 km) of range on the CLTC cycle. This energy nourishes a pair of electric motors producing a combined sprint of 429 hp (320 kW), good for a sprint from 0 to 62 MPH (100 km / h) in just 3.9 seconds.

The exterior design of the JMEV01 is something to see. In a world where many electric vehicles seem unnecessarily futuristic and are dominated by smooth surfaces and curved lines to help at aerodynamics, this sports car is more traditional and is all the better for that. The front includes sharp lighthouses with black surroundings, a large grille and air intake and a Clands style hood.

From the rear angle of the three -quarters, the inspiration of Lancia Stratos becomes impossible to miss. The JMEV01 has a flat bridge cover, a tidy lip spoiler, circular rear lights and a blackened bumper – posts that give it the appearance of a filtered rally icon through the Chinese lens.

Plus: the giant China spatial solar resort could pass an endless power to electric vehicles and houses

It is still too early to say if the JMEV01 will be up to its promise, but on paper, it checks a lot of good boxes. If nothing else, this is proof that all electric vehicles not leaving China must be a technological pod of 5,000 pounds in the shape of jelly with light bars.
