- BMW dropped a set of images from a Dakar M2 ready on the road.
- The coupé obtains an additional floor clearance and large rear wheel vents.
- Unfortunately, the Go-Anywher Dakar is just a Floc of the BMW April Fool’s Prank.
Each year, some car manufacturers like to tease us with stories of April Fool which are often simply stupid. Isuzu entering the perfume market and Fiat making a 500th “edition” edition with a grille that doubles a cheese grater comes to my mind. But sometimes ideas are too good to be joking. The BMW M2 Dakar is one of them.
BMW has dropped a bunch of images on Instagram today from an M2 coupe raised on all-terrain tires and with body mods designed to improve its approach and departure angles. Critics of stock M2 design could even say that the Baby car looks better without its clumsy standard bumper.

The front and rear wings have giant vents cut in them to provide cooling at the brakes in the hot playground of the desert and there are front and rear slippages to protect the 473 hp (480 PS) 3.0 liters online six and limited shift differential. And like no all -terrain car – especially not the name of one of the most difficult rallies in the world – is complete without spare parts, the M2 Dakar has a roof basket containing a spare wheel and an emergency fuel box.
Ten years ago, we might have laughed at the absurdity of something like the M2 Dakar, but following real production machines like the Porsche 911 Dakar, we can imagine that a few people seeing the BMW Instagram post and thinking that it is the real deal. But unfortunately, this is certainly not the case.

BMW is not the first car manufacturer that has tried to pranks us with a raised sports car. Last year, Subaru from the Fool’s Fool Floc from New England was a Wilderness BRZ equipped with a symmetrical all-wheel drive. Although you thought about it, BRZ sales are so bad, maybe it would have been useful for Subaru to try to build some.
Do you think BMW should build and sell a Dakar M2, or do you think the trend of all-terrain sports cars is simply stupid? Let a comment and let us know.
