- The Land Cruiser FJ can share its scale foundations with the Champion Hilux.
2/22 update: We have received new information on the Land Cruiser FJ, much awaited from Toyota – or FJ Cruiser, because some rumors suggest that it could be called – including the reports according to which its date of introduction was pushed at the end of the ‘year. We have updated this story to reflect the latest details.
The signage plaque of the Land Cruiser has long been synonymous with an exceptional off -road capacity, it is therefore not surprising that Toyota intends to perpetuate this tradition with the models to come. Among them is the impatient compact SUV which would be built on scale foundations. This “baby” Land Cruiser should now make his debut later this year, perhaps carrying the nickname of FJ in a form of his name.
The new model made its first appearance in an official teaser in 2023, as a smaller member of the Land Cruiser family alongside the classic 70 series, the modern 250 series (the one we obtain in North America) and the 300 series (unavailable in the United States). This was followed by a brand depot, causing rumors about the possible use of the Land Cruiser FJ signage plate for the compact all-terrain.
Compact imprint, robust style
The unique teaser image, which inspired our speculative rendering, alludes to the design indices of the Boxy SUV design of the Toyota Compact Cruiser EV 2021 concept. Although it maintains the vertical position and modern LED accents, the production model appears Slightly larger, with large floor clearance, robust tires and a flat tailgate with a mounted spare wheel.
More: everything we know about the Toyota Rav4 2026
The Land Cruiser FJ should have a slightly larger imprint than the Corolla cross but perhaps smaller than the Rav4. The initial estimates indicate dimensions of approximately 4,500 mm (177.2 inches) in length, 1,830 mm (72 inches) wide and 1850 mm (72.8 inch) in height, with a wheelbase of 2750 mm (108 , 3 inches).
If these figures are correct, the Land Cruiser FJ will notably be smaller than the Land Cruiser of North America which measures 4,925 mm (193.9 inches) long, but larger than the Ford Bronco Sport of 4,387 mm (172.7 inches) long.
Scale foundations
In addition to the notable exception of the Suzuki Jimny, the majority of small and compact SUVs have moved to monoccosk architectures. Fortunately for adventure applicants, this does not seem to be the case with the Land Cruiser FJ, which is supposed to climb on a frame of scale.
Rather than using the TNGA-F platform found in the Land Cruiser 250 and 300 larger and more expensive series, the compact off-road should climb on the IMV 0 architecture shared with the Toyota Hilux field / pick-up Ranga.

This choice preserves the rugged heritage of Land Cruiser while allowing Toyota to offer the model at a more accessible price. Naturally, the SUV will include improved characteristics of noise, vibrations and hardness (NVH) and a more refined driving dynamic compared to the Hilux champion, which favors affordability on emerging markets.
In addition, a 4×4 system with a twisted limited sliding differential will most likely be included as standard, which allows it to tackle hard grounds in combination with the generous land authorization and adherent tires.
Unlectrified non -electrified aspiration groups not electrified?
There are a lot of speculation surrounding the options of the powertrain for the next Ferm Cruiser FJ (or all that Toyota ends up calling it). The first reports suggest that it could be delivered both with internal combustion and hybrid powertrain, with the possibility of an entirely electric version later.
However, more recent reports say that Toyota has removed hybrid powertrain in favor of a traditional petrol engine. However, this information must be taken with a grain of salt, because the options of the powertrain can vary depending on the region. Given market trends, Toyota could still offer a hybrid version outside Japan, in particular in North America and Europe, where the demand for energy efficiency and the lower emissions remain strong.

In all cases, one of the most likely options to supply the Land Cruiser FJ is the 2-cylinder 2,7-liter four-cylinder fuel-feeffale engine. This unit is already used in the Thai Hilux champion linked to mechanics, as well as in the Eu-Spec and JDM-Spec versions of the Land Cruiser Prado (series 250). However, this could only apply to markets like Japan and other Asian regions where the Hilux champion is sold.
In the latter, this engine produces 161 hp (120 kW / 163 PS) and 246 Nm (181 LB-PI) of torque, associated with an automatic 6-speed transmission and an appropriate 4×4 system. Although these figures may be enough for a compact all-terrain in many markets, they may not meet the most eager requirements on the North American market. By way of comparison, the Ford Bronco Sport offers a three -liter three -liter turbocharged cylinder and a 2.0 -liter four -liter four -cylinder turbo of 245 hp.

That said, Toyota has a variety of engines at his disposal, including the options found in the Corolla Cross, Rav4 and even the Prius for an improved hybrid power, if she chooses to follow this path. For example, in North America, the Corolla Cross offers a four online 2.0 liters of 169 hp, the RAV4 can be obtained with a four -cylinder of 203 hp 2.5 liters, and the new Prius is equipped with A four -cylinder 2.0 -liter hybrid petrol engine producing 194 hp, as well as a rechargeable hybrid variant providing 220 hp.
When will he arrive?
Although there is no official confirmation concerning the beginnings of Toyota Land Cruiser FJ, according to the most recent reports of the best car in Japan, it could potentially make its local debut in the fall of 2025, followed by A global deployment in 2026.
Regarding prices, the latest Intels indicate that the Land Cruiser FJ could be evaluated between 4 and 4.5 million yen in its domestic market, which is equivalent to $ 26,600 to $ 30,000 on the basis of rates of Current change. Or the comparison, the Land Cruiser 70 series starts at 4.8 million yen ($ 32,000), the 250 to 5.2 million yen series ($ 34,700) and the 300 to 5.1 million yen series ( $ 34,000) in Japan.
Prices will naturally vary depending on the market, but we plan that the North American model from $ 30,000 at $ 35,000, potentially exceeding the bar of $ 40,000 for high-end models. This would position it in particular below the starting price of $ 56,450 of the Toyota Land Cruiser 2025 in the United States.
