The next generation of the compact model will continue production in Indiana but has been delayed

- Honda would have deleted plans to move civic hybrid production to Mexico.
- Instead, the car will be built in Indiana, although certain imports can always be necessary.
- The production was initially set at the end of 2027 but was now pushed until 2028.
President Trump is expected to hit Canada and Mexico products with a 25% rate from March 4, and it seems that car manufacturers are preparing for the brutal reality of a new world trade war. As part of this effort, the emphasis is placed on the construction of vehicles in America to help reduce prices for consumers.
This is particularly important for consumer public models and Reuters Report that Honda decided to build the new generation civic hybrid in the United States. The model should be made in Mexico, which would have already been a change since the current sedan has been made in Alliston, Ontario, while the tailgate is built in Greensburg, Indiana.
Plus: Trump prices could reach 20% of new cars sales in the United States
Citing three people familiar with the plan, the publication said that civic production should start in Guanajuato, Mexico from November 2027. This decision had to help Honda avoid rising costs in the United States and Canada.
However, the potential prices launched a key in these plans, because the Civic would have been pushed in May 2028 and will now be manufactured in Indiana. Honda plans to build around 210,000 units per year at the factory, which could be a problem because the company sold 242,005 civic in the United States last year. To cope with the expected deficit, Honda can import certain civics made in countries not affected by prices.
Honda would not confirm or refuse the report, but Reuters said that around 40% of vehicles sold by Honda in America were imported from Canada or Mexico. This means that the company faces a huge problem and that consumers can probably expect considerably higher price labels.
