- 2023-2025 The Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon models now have reinforced roof panels.
- The affected models can be bumpled during the high pressure drying stadium with contactless car washing.
- General Motors has published a service bulletin to resolve the problem of customer -belonging vehicles.
When you think of robust vans like the Chevrolet Colorado and the GMC Canyon, you are probably waiting for them to be difficult, being able to take everything that the world is throwing them. So, it is a bit of a shock to learn that since 2023, these GM trucks have had a rather strange problem: their roof panels are far too flexible, so much so that a trip through a car washing without contact could leave bumps. So what exactly is happening here, and what does GM do to repair it?
Review: 2023 Chevrolet Colorado proves that medium -sized trucks do not have to suck
Many owners of Colorado and Canyon have pointed out that the roof panels in their trucks were flexed during the high pressure drying phase with car washing. It turns out that the panels were so flexible that the drying jets caused visible bumps. While customer complaints accumulated, GM quickly published a service bulletin for 2023 and more recent models, announcing a corrective for the problem and promising that no new model of Colorado and Canyon will leave the factory with an annoying roof panel.
GM fix: stiffening of the roof, a screw at a time
To solve the problem, GM adds stiffening plates below the roof panels. They also install a metallic arc in progress vertically through the underside of the roof, which is then held in place with five screws, a structural adhesive and rivets. Once this new support structure is in place, GM ends the fix by installing the headliner, GM authority reported. Simple, but effective – at least, that’s the plan.

For all those who have a Colorado or Canyon 2023-2025 built before February 3, 2025, the good news is that you can also reinforce your roof. However, if the roof of your truck has already been damaged, for example, from a bump caused by high pressure drying or other problems, you will have to make these repairs before the strengthening procedure.
Interestingly, there have been reports among the owners according to which the roof panels are always sensitive to bumps even after having repaired. If this is the case, it is a good idea to contact your local GM dealer to see more closely to see if there is still an underlying problem which must be solved.
