- The update increases load speeds for versions of 98 kWh and 131 kWh from the EV.
- Before updating, the models with the 98 kWh pack can charge 15 to 80% in 32 minutes.
- Live software changes also improve the electronic parking brake system.
Last month, Ford began deploying a live software update from Lightning F-150 owners across the United States. Although the update only introduces a few changes, one of the most notable is an improvement in DC rapid charging times, which will necessarily be welcomed by the owners across the country.
Before the update, the F-1550 Lightning models with the standard battery of 98 kWh could theoretically take on 15 to 80% in about 32 minutes, while the largest pack of 131 kWh took about 38 minutes for the same. Ford’s publication notes for OTA update do not give details on exact improvements, only saying that the “load rate at DC Fast Chargers” has been increased. Fortunately, an owner gave us a clearer image of how she charges more quickly.

After the latest software update, the F-150 Lightning immediately drawn 500 amps when connected to the EVGO fast charger, invoicing at 180 kW.
The truck now charges 10 to 80% in 39 minutes and 43 seconds, razing 4 to 6 minutes compared to before. Although this is not massive time savings, each bit counts and will certainly make the load more practical for the owners.
More than speed: some bug corrections
In addition to load improvements, Ford also discussed some annoying bugs. They managed to eliminate some boring false warnings on the dashboard. In addition, the electronic parking brake software has been changed for “more coherent performance”. Although this may look like a minor solution, let’s face it – everything that works better in an electric vehicle is a victory, even if it is only the parking brake.
Carscoops contacted Ford concerning the software update, the search for additional information and will update this message when we hear.
