  • The plaintiff says that the sunroof of its Mercedes Gle 2019 exploded in February 2022.
  • Customers can be excluded from their pockets about $ 5,000 to replace a broken sunroof.
  • The models that would have been affected by the question include class C, class E, Gle class.

The last thing that is expected on a peaceful reader is that its sunroof suddenly explodes, but according to a collective recourse against Mercedes-Benz in the United States, this is exactly what some owners have experienced. The pursuit, which is now advancing before the courts, says that the roofs of works on several Mercedes models built since 2011 can break without warning, which puts drivers and passengers at risk.

Originally deposited in Georgia in 2023, the case affirms that despite the knowledge of the issue for years, Mercedes has not taken any measure.

The case was carried by Natalie Bolling, who says that the sunroof of her 2019 Gle exploded in February 2022 while she was driving with the cover of the open shadow. According to Bolling, the sound was as strong as an explosion of hunting rifle, leaving it as well as its fiancé covered with broken glass. She claims that Mercedes refused to cover repairs, forcing her to spend nearly $ 5,000 on a replacement sunroof.

According to the trial, Mercedes-Benz has experienced the propensity of its working roofs to break since 2006 but has given no recall. Vehicles have been equipped with overlying roofs to breakers include the following elements:

The trial maintains that the problem stems from the use of tempered glass rather than laminated glass. Because the tempered glass is designed to break into small pieces during the impact, even a minor scratch could theoretically lead to a catastrophic failure,

Judge Thomas W. Thrash Jr. said most of the complaints made in the trial in 2023 could continue. These include several allegations of fraud, including fraudulent concealment and unfair enrichment. Implicit warranty complaints have also been authorized to continue, even if Mercedes tried to have them expelled, claiming that the applicants had to provide an avant-justice notice before filing the collective appeal.

The pursuit refers to several complaints of customers filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) which date back to 2010, and some even earlier. They came from owners of electronic and class C models of 2006, 2007, 2008, 2016, 2018 and 2019, as well as the owner of a 2019 electronic class. A complaint came from a owner of CLA 2020 who said that his sunroof had broken by driving at around 75 MPH.

For the moment, Mercedes-Benz has not been recalling or has officially recognized a widespread defect. The owners who have experienced sustainable roofing were responsible for repair costs. The result of the trial can determine whether the automaker takes new measures, but at this stage, no final decision has been made.
