  • Hyundai remembers 1,508 ioniq 5 ns on the braking defect linked to the braking mode of the left foot
  • Cars built between December 2023 and December 2024 are assigned by the recall notice.
  • The brand urges the owners to avoid the braking of the left foot until the dealers complement the software update

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 N is equipped with a dizzying range of different driving modes and characteristics designed to make it the ultimate all electric hooligan. However, a problem with one of these features forced the company to recall more than 1,500 IONIQ 5 NS in the United States.

A reminder notice issued by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) identifies the braking mode of the left foot of the car as being at fault. As the name of this mode indicates, it allows conductors to use the brake and accelerator pedals simultaneously and aims for high performance driving on the racetrack.

However, it was revealed that at certain times, the integrated electronic brake control software (IEB) can trigger a depressurization of the ABS system, reducing braking performance. This obviously increases the risk of an accident, especially on the track where drivers need the greatest number of the braking system.

In total, 1,508 examples of the Ioniq 5 N are involved in the recall. These cars were made between December 18, 2023 and December 10, 2024.

Hyundai plans to inform the dealerships and reminder owners on April 7 and encourages all owners to stop using the braking function of the left foot. The concessionaires were invited to update the IEB and VCU software to rectify the defect.

Although this seems to be the first recall having an impact specifically on the IONIQ 5 N in the United States, the ordinary model has been recalled in the past. In November of last year, the Hyundai Motor group recalled more than 145,000 IONIQ 5, IONIQ 6, Genesis G80 electrified, Genesis GV70 electrified and the Genesis GV60 models, because the integrated load control unit could be damaged, preventing the 12 volts battery from loading and forcing it to drain slowly.
