  • The Sentry mode uses the external cameras of a Tesla to save what is going on.
  • Although the system is practical, it was criticized for emptying the EV battery emptying.
  • More than 80 Tesla models have recently been damaged in an installation in Canada.

Tesla clearly indicated that he adopts a firm position against vandalism in its facilities through the United States and that it deploys a new strategy: activating the Sentry mode on all the cars of its exhibition halls. The decision comes as incidents for targeted attacks on Tesla vehicles increased both in the United States and internationally. With this additional surveillance layer, the company hopes to catch troublemakers in the act.

Yesterday, a well -known investor and supporter of Tesla suggested that the company intensifies security by employing 24 -hour security agents in all its exhibition halls and service centers in the United States and Canada – at least until things calm down. Elon Musk quickly replied, announcing that Tesla had “increased security” and allowed Sentry mode on all vehicles on its locations.

The advantages of Sentry mode

Although it avoids developing the additional security measures that Tesla takes, activating the Sentry mode seems to be an intelligent movement. This system uses exterior cameras found on all Tesla models to continuously save what is happening around the vehicle. It turned out to be extremely beneficial for the owners of the years, catching vandals and thieves in sight. Anyone who goes to a Tesla site with the intention of harming cars could be filmed without knowing it in the act.

However, in fashion, the public announcement was perhaps a double-edged sword. Now that the vandals know what Tesla does, they could take precautions, like covering their face to avoid being identified. It may have been more effective to maintain this security change under Wraps until the system grabs a few culprits.

Although Sentry mode can certainly be dissuasive, it is not without faults. One of the main concerns is the impact of the system on the battery life. Tesla has never officially published figures on the quantity of battery consumed by Sentry mode, but independent tests suggest that it could flow between 10 and 15% of the battery every day. This means that Tesla will have to ensure that the vehicles to which care is regularly loaded, especially if the objective is to maintain the security system 24 hours a day.

Fortunately, Tesla recently introduced an update that would have reduced the battery leak by around 40%, which could help reduce part of the pressure on its service centers to keep the cars loaded.

The announcement of this new measure follows an incident in Hamilton, Ontario, where more than 80 Tesla vehicles were damaged at a dealership. The reports indicate that cars have been striped and had their tires perforated, further stressing the growing safety need in Tesla’s locations.
