The new compact # 5 SUV is not to come to the United States and it is a mistake

Sometimes the smartest products are not the most radical. They are the ones who take an existing idea and improve it, like this new smart # 5, which is making its debut in Europe this week, seven months after launch in China.

The third and the largest of the three electric SUVs of the new intelligent company, the n ° 5 is not intelligent like the original Fortwo, which piling up space for two passengers in an incredibly small package. But going after the Tesla Model Y, which remains the best sold in Europe and America even after a slowdown in sales, is definitely an intelligent decision.

Smart does not say how far the little guy will get you a charge, but it is probably less than 300 miles (483 km) since the large battery needs juice after 366 miles WLTP (589 km).

Connected to a sufficiently fast charger, it will fill up by 10 to 80% in 18 minutes and, like Hyundai-Kia EVS, the # 5 has a loading vehicle outlet to help you get the most out of travel in large spaces.

Smart has not published all technological specifications, although it says that the most expensive pulse and edition models can go from zero to 62 mph (100 kmH) in 4.9 seconds. Last year, we learned from the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technologies that AWD versions mate an electric motor mounted on 221 hp (165 kW / 224 PS) with a rear engine of 358 hp (267 kW / 363 PS) or 416 hp (310 kW / 422 PS).

This same fall in Chinese information has revealed cheaper with mono-motor # 5S engine with outings of 335 hp (250 kW / 340 PS) or 358 hp (267 kW / 363 PS), although it is not clear if the two fairly similar food options will be offered in Europe. But it seems that you can obtain a unique engine configuration with the 100 kWh battery, and we assume that it is the one with the 366 miles range.

Three dark screens and seats

Open the door and the cabin seems much more welcoming and less striking than the interior of a Tesla Y model. Smart boasts heated rear seats, electric Sunshade, plane style led reading lights, ambient ambient lighting of 256 colors, a high -headed display increasing by 25.6 inches.
