  • Samsung has just taken responsibility for a multitude of reminders affecting more than 180,000 cars.
  • 180,196 cars through brands belonging to Ford, Volkswagen and Stelllantis are a reminder.
  • We do not know what is the corrective at this stage, but the symptoms are similar in brands.

It is not every day that a recall manages to drive in several car manufacturers at the same time, but it is today one of these special occasions. Samsung has just announced a reminder affecting 180,196 vehicles through Ford, Audi and Stellantis, all due to a high -voltage battery that could fail and set fire.

Of all the affected brands, Stellantis obtains the worst. According to Samsung, 155,096 Stellantis vehicles are in danger. The recall covers the Jeep Wrangler 4Xe 2020-2024 and the Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe 2022-2024, the two rechargeable hybrid models.

According to the NHTSA, the batteries of these vehicles sometimes have damage to the separator. This, combined with other interactions in battery cells, could cause fire. Interestingly, Ford vehicles included in the recall could have a similar problem. More specifically, it affects the Ford Escape 2020-2024 and 2021-2024 Lincoln Corsair.

Ford told Samsung that surveys have revealed that “the layout of the high -voltage cell between its cathode and the anode may be susceptible to damage due to the cell manufacturing process.” On the other hand, neither Volkswagen nor Samsung specifies what is the basic problem for cars under this umbrella. The two cars included in the recall are 2022 A7 and 2022-2023 Q5.

All we know about affected VWs is that thermal overload could cause smoke or fire. The two problems are different, but the first can lead to the second. In the event of thermal leakage, fires are almost inevitable and very difficult to extinguish.

Samsung admits that he does not yet have a concrete chest, but the owners of Ford get at least one tête-à-tête. If their vehicle detects a problem, they will see a message “stop safe now” on the dashboard. Owners of Audi and Stellantis? No luck. Their best bet is to complete the reminder as soon as possible.

For the moment, the only solution on all brands seems to be a software update that will alert owners if the battery system detects a problem. Until then, maybe park outside-you know, just in case.
