- The owner of a SOFLO Custom Hummer EV says that his local dealer has just canceled his entire warranty.
- He says that the dealer initially worked with him on a question that had nothing to do with the mods.
- Now he has sworn to buy another GM product and in the hope of obtaining justice in a way.
Dustin Broom says that after having undergone a heart attack in April 2024, his vision of life changed. He decided to exchange his Dodge Hellcat and Audi R8 for the Personalized GMC Hummer EV that you see here – built by the people of Soflo Customs. The truck, he says, Carscoops, “checked all the boxes”. But now, less than a year later, his local dealer has canceled his warranty, citing the modifications.
Shortly after buying the truck from Soflo Customs, Broom took the SUV to his local dealer to work on the switch Mymode. In addition, his service light has been “always on the move”, he says and consequently, he cannot raise or lower the vehicle. Despite this, features such as Walk crab and 4 -wheel steering continued to operate as planned. Obviously, the concessionaire has tried to solve these problems since May 2024.

According to Broom, the GM dealer first told him that the problem was linked to a defective module that needed repair. For any reason, something changed at the dealership. On February 7 of this year, Broom published in a Facebook group Hummer EV on development, revealing that GM had refused to honor its guarantee.
“Well, I guess I can start the dispute with GM. The director of the GM Service district said that because of the nature of the improvements made in my truck (Fyi, they put larger tires on it, and painted, and put a different leather interior), my warranty is now completely zero. I never buy a GM product again, ”he says.
It should be noted that Broom says that Soflo told him that the modifications would not cancel the factory guarantee. However, he says that GM did not simply refuse the coverage of certain components, this canceled the entire vehicle warranty.
Has the guarantee been canceled due to the transfer of ownership?
Another wrinkle of the situation is that Broom bought the truck used, so it is not clear if GM intended to cancel the guarantee due to the transfer of property or if something else is at stake. In any case, the question remains: who is to blame here? Should GM honor the warranty if the changes are purely cosmetic?

Under the Magnuson-Moss warranty law, manufacturers cannot cancel the guarantee of a vehicle simply due to changes in the secondary market, unless they can prove that these modifications have directly caused the problem . Carscoops contacted the two GMs, the dealer in question and Soflo customs for more information on the situation. When writing these lines, neither GM nor Soflo Customs responded to our request.
The dealer, however, provided a declaration:
“As a dealer, we have nothing to do with a blocked guarantee. This comes from higher in manufacturing. They hold the guarantee on the vehicle and it is their decision, we, as a concessionaire, must follow what they tell us to do because they hold the guarantee. »»
